Preserving the Beauty of Western Maine
In the mid-1980s, a small group of dedicated residents recognized the urgent need to protect a vast parcel of land along the Androscoggin River in Turner from potential development. Their grassroots efforts led to the establishment of the Androscoggin Land Trust in 1989, a nonprofit organization committed to conserving the natural landscapes that define the region. With the support of statewide conservation organizations, they successfully secured funding to purchase the land, which is now part of the Androscoggin Riverlands State Park, the fifth largest in Maine.
Making a Lasting Impact
Today, the Androscoggin Land Trust has protected approximately 7,850 acres across 19 towns in the Androscoggin River watershed, from Jay to Lisbon Falls. This includes vital habitats for wildlife and numerous outdoor recreational opportunities for the community.
