EIN: 47-2112376 · Philadelphia, PA
Our Story
Founded in 2014 by Black feminists, Amistad Law Project emerged from the fight against mass incarceration in Philadelphia. The organization recognizes that community violence stems from disinvestment and social inequality, advocating for practical abolition to reduce the carceral state's role while enhancing community healing and safety.
Impact
Amistad Law Project has successfully led campaigns that established Philadelphia’s first non-police mental health crisis response, securing over $10 million for this initiative. In the past five years, the organization has significantly increased commutations for individuals serving Life Without Parole, reuniting over 50 people with their families.
