The American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) was established in January 1998 through the unification of three prominent associations: the Society for Health and Human Values, the Society for Bioethics Consultation, and the American Association of Bioethics. This historic consolidation was driven by a shared vision to enhance the field of bioethics and was overwhelmingly supported by the memberships of all three organizations.
