Our Story

The American Pit Bull Foundation was founded by Sara Ondrako, a dedicated veterinary nurse who witnessed the heartbreaking reality of pit bull surrenders and euthanasia. Established in 2010, this organization not only rescues pit bulls but also advocates for their owners, focusing on education to promote responsible dog ownership. By addressing the root causes of abuse, neglect, and overpopulation, the foundation aims to create a compassionate community for both dogs and their humans.

Impact

Through innovative programs like Operation Sidekick, the American Pit Bull Foundation has successfully connected rescued pit bulls with veterans suffering from PTSD. This initiative not only provides trained service dogs but also significantly improves the quality of life for both the dogs and their new owners, helping to combat veteran suicide.
