Our Story

Founded in 1985 by Dean Richard Calkins of Drake Law School, the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) serves as the governing body for intercollegiate mock trial competitions. By engaging in trial simulations against teams from various institutions, students cultivate essential skills in critical thinking and public speaking, alongside a comprehensive understanding of legal practices. AMTA organizes 32 regional tournaments, eight opening round championship tournaments, and a national championship tournament each season, providing a platform for approximately 700 teams from over 400 universities and colleges to compete.

Impact

AMTA empowers over 7,300 undergraduate students annually, fostering their development through competitive mock trial experiences.
