Our Story

Founded over 30 years ago, the American Indian Community Development Corporation (AICDC) emerged from the need to provide better support for American Indians experiencing homelessness. In 1991, the American Indian Task Force on Housing and Homelessness was established, leading to the formation of AICDC in 1992. This organization is dedicated to offering culturally specific housing and supportive services tailored to the unique needs of American Indians in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Impact

AICDC has been a beacon of hope, operating Anishinabe Wakiagun, a 45-bed permanent supportive housing development for individuals battling substance use disorders since 1996. Additionally, AICDC has created 88 units of scattered site housing, serving primarily Native American individuals. During the COVID-19 pandemic, AICDC provided essential services to over 11,600 homeless individuals through its mobile Hygiene Services Area and KOLA Overnight Drop-in Center.
