Our Story

The Ocean Cleanup, founded by Boyan Slat in 2013, is dedicated to developing and scaling technologies to rid the oceans of plastic. With a mission to remove 90% of floating ocean plastic pollution by 2040, the organization has evolved from a small team of volunteers to a robust workforce of over 130 employees, focusing on innovative solutions to tackle the global plastic crisis.

Impact

To date, The Ocean Cleanup has successfully removed over 15 million kilograms of plastic from the environment and deployed 15 river Interceptors across 8 countries. Their research has led to over 50 peer-reviewed articles on plastic pollution science, aimed at restoring marine ecosystems and benefiting communities reliant on clean rivers and oceans.
