Our Story

Founded in 1883 in Philadelphia, the American Anti-Vivisection Society (AAVS) emerged from the British anti-vivisection movement. This organization has tirelessly worked to regulate animal use in scientific research and aims for the complete abolition of vivisection in the United States.

Impact

Over its 140-year history, AAVS has awarded more than $4 million to sanctuaries caring for animals released from laboratories and has successfully advocated for legislation to protect a wider range of animals used in research.
