Founded in December 1979, Alternative Directions began as the Sunshine One-Way House for Men, initiated by local church members. This program was designed to offer a diversion from incarceration for non-violent property offenders, helping them to restructure their lives, develop work habits, and pursue education.
In FY 2016/2017, Alternative Directions supported 278 offenders, who collectively contributed over $19,000 in child support and $16,000 in restitution. With 126 residents securing employment shortly after enrollment, the program has proven effective in fostering community reintegration.
