Our Story
The Altamaha Riverkeeper is a grassroots organization dedicated to the protection, defense, and restoration of Georgia’s biggest river—the Altamaha—along with its tributaries, the Ocmulgee, Oconee, and Ohoopee. Founded in 2000, this organization is part of the Waterkeeper Alliance, which supports grassroots programs focused on protecting waterways worldwide.
Our Impact
Through aggressive monitoring of pollution and polluters, Altamaha Riverkeeper conducts water sampling and analysis, successfully rallying public support and taking legal action against polluters when necessary. This has led to significant improvements in water quality across the region.
