Our Story

Founded in 1992, ALSO Youth emerged from a pressing need to address the alarming suicide rates among gay and lesbian teens. Collaborating with local organizations like PFLAG, Planned Parenthood, and YMCA Youth and Family Services, dedicated volunteers established a support group for youth in the Sarasota area. Recognizing the necessity for more comprehensive services, the founders engaged with school officials to implement training programs for educators. Over the years, the organization has expanded its reach, providing essential peer support services, community enrichment, scholarships, and free counseling to LGBTQ+ youth aged 10 to 24, their families, and the broader community.
