Our Story
Founded in 2005 amidst the immigrant rights protests in Chicago, the Alliance of Filipinos for Immigrant Rights and Empowerment (AFIRE) began as a grassroots movement. Initially known as the Alliance of Filipino Americans for the Protection of Immigrants Rights, AFIRE emerged from kitchen table organizing, where Filipinx/a/o individuals gathered to discuss the implications of the Sensenbrenner Act. This core group, primarily composed of undocumented immigrants from the Philippines, sought to influence legislation and create positive change. In 2010, AFIRE gained 501c3 status, solidifying its commitment to advocate for the rights of immigrants.
