Our Story
Founded in 2011 by Michele Erwin, All Wheels Up emerged from a personal journey of navigating air travel with her son Greyson, who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Experiencing the challenges of traveling with a wheelchair, Michele recognized the urgent need for change. The organization has since dedicated itself to ensuring that wheelchairs can be safely secured on commercial flights, collaborating with regulators, airlines, and manufacturers to make air travel accessible for all.
Impact
In 2018, All Wheels Up celebrated a significant victory when Congress passed the FAA Reauthorization Act, which included an amendment for a feasibility study on wheelchair securement systems. This study, released in 2021, confirmed the technical feasibility of in-cabin wheelchair securement systems, paving the way for future advancements in accessible air travel. The advocacy efforts also led to the establishment of a Passenger with Disabilities Bill of Rights, ensuring better protections for travelers with disabilities.
