Our Story

Alivio Medical Center opened its doors on January 4, 1989, to serve the underserved communities of Chicago, particularly the Mexican immigrant population. Founded by Carmen Velásquez and Dr. Ann Garcelon, the center was established to address the lack of access to healthcare for Spanish-speaking individuals.
