Our Story
Decades before Amelia became the CEO of a foster care agency and founded Alia, she worked in a children’s group home. There, she washed dishes, folded laundry, and helped with homework, forming deep bonds with the children. It became clear that these children needed more than temporary staff; they needed safe families to thrive. Listening to their hopes and fears, Amelia recognized their primal longing for family. This experience ignited her passion for reforming the child welfare system.
Amelia's journey in foster care revealed a profound need for love and belonging among children. Witnessing their transitions from group homes to other placements or aging out of care without a permanent family fueled her urgency to innovate. With her team, she achieved dramatically increased permanency outcomes for children, transforming individual impacts into a mission to revolutionize the child welfare system.
In 2016, Alia was established, embodying the meaning of 'other' and 'different'—a call to a better way. The organization is dedicated to transforming how we care for families and children across the nation, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive within a loving family.
