Our Story

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation, established in 1982, began with the acquisition of The Schooner Alexandria, a tall ship that served as a living museum. Over the years, the focus has shifted to empowering at-risk youth through the Apprentice Program, which teaches traditional boatbuilding and woodworking skills while fostering life and career skills.

Impact on Youth

By nurturing resilience and building community among disconnected youth aged 18-23, the Foundation helps them gain confidence and prepare for successful futures. In the past two years, 12 apprentices have entered military service, 22 have continued their education, and 5 have entered the construction, building, or maritime trades.
