Empowering Underserved Youth

Our Story

Founded in 1994 by George Cox, Alexander Hamilton Scholars began as a quest to honor the legacy of one of America's founding fathers. Inspired by Hamilton's ethical and pragmatic values, Cox sought to provide underserved youth with the same opportunities that Hamilton had. Initially starting with an essay contest in Seattle high schools, the organization quickly evolved to offer comprehensive support for high-achieving students.

In 2004, the Alexander Hamilton Friends Association was established, expanding its programming to follow students from high school through college and into their careers. With initiatives like Seattle Leader Week, International Leader Week, and various mentorship programs, AHS has created a robust support system for students across the nation.

Today, Alexander Hamilton Scholars continues to thrive, rooted in the values that inspired its inception. The organization has grown to serve over 150 active scholars, providing them with the mentorship and resources necessary to succeed.

Impact

With a remarkable 96% college graduation rate within five years, Alexander Hamilton Scholars has produced numerous Gates Millennium Scholars, Coca-Cola Scholars, and QuestBridge Finalists. The program has successfully broken cycles of poverty, empowering students to achieve their dreams.
