Our Story

Founded in 1983 by a passionate baseball-loving dad, the Albany Berkeley Girls Softball League (ABGSL) was created to provide girls with the opportunity to engage in a fun, athletic, and strategic sport: softball. Over the past 40 years, ABGSL has fostered a culture of positivity and inclusivity, ensuring that every player, coach, and parent feels welcome and valued. As the league celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2023, it reaffirms its commitment to diversity and inclusivity, updating its policies to embrace nonbinary and transgender players. ABGSL remains a safe haven for those who have often been excluded from athletic opportunities, allowing all participants to grow their skills and build lasting friendships.

Impact

ABGSL emphasizes safety, skill development, and fun for every player, regardless of their experience level. Graduates of the league are well-prepared to compete in fastpitch or slow-pitch softball at various levels, including high school and college.
