Transforming Lives Through Literacy
The Alaska Literacy Program (ALP) has been a beacon of hope since 1974, dedicated to changing lives through literacy. This volunteer-based community agency serves a diverse population of adult learners in Alaska, offering essential skills in areas such as digital, health, financial, and family literacy. By providing GED test preparation and the innovative Peer Leader Navigator initiative, ALP connects individuals to vital resources and information, fostering self-sufficiency and community integration.
Making a Significant Impact
In FY22, ALP proudly served individuals from 64 different countries, empowering over 600 students with crucial literacy education. The organization swiftly adapted to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic by transitioning to online classes, ensuring accessibility for those facing transportation or childcare barriers. The Peer Leader Navigator program has reached over 7,000 community members, delivering essential health information during these unprecedented times.
