About Alaska Avalanche School

Founded in 1976 by Doug Fesler, the Alaska Avalanche School (AAS) was established to reduce avalanche accidents through comprehensive education. Originally part of the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation, AAS became an independent nonprofit in 2005-2006, gaining a reputation for excellence in avalanche safety training.
