Our Story

In 2004, the San Antonio Express-News shed light on the dire conditions faced by companion animals in San Antonio, which had the highest euthanization rate among major U.S. cities. This alarming situation sparked community outrage and led to the implementation of an Animal Care Strategic Plan in 2006, aiming for a 'no kill' goal by 2012. To support this initiative, the Alamo Area Partners for Animal Welfare (AAPAW) was formed in 2007, uniting various animal welfare organizations, veterinarians, and community members to enhance the lives of animals in the San Antonio area.

Our Impact

AAPAW supports over 50 local independent rescue groups, facilitating the rescue and adoption of thousands of homeless animals each year.
