Founded in 1975 by kidney patient William E. Rowe, the Alabama Kidney Foundation emerged from a profound understanding of the struggles faced by those battling kidney disease. Rowe's personal journey through the challenges of kidney illness inspired him to create a support system for patients who, like him, faced overwhelming medical expenses. After witnessing a fellow patient decline treatment due to financial burdens, Rowe rallied a group of compassionate businessmen to provide assistance to kidney patients in need.
