Welcome to the Aisling Irish Community Center
For over twenty-five years, the Aisling Irish Community Center has been the heart of the Irish community in Woodlawn and Yonkers, New York. Established in the early 1990s as Tír na Nóg, this center was born from the dedication of Irish chaplains, Sr. Edna McNicholas and Fr. Tom Flynn, who sought to support the growing number of Irish immigrants in the area. In 1996, the center moved to McLean Avenue, a vibrant hub of Irish culture, and in 2018, it became fully owned by the community after years of hard work and fundraising.
Today, the Aisling Center is a thriving space that caters to all ages, offering a wide range of programs including captivating art classes, Irish language lessons, music and dance classes, karate sessions, and the exciting Celtic Summer Camp for youth. For seniors, the Young at Heart group provides delightful lunches, relaxing chair yoga, engaging book club meetings, and enjoyable movie screenings. The center also offers essential support services such as counseling, AA meetings, and wellness workshops, ensuring that everyone in the community has access to the resources they need.
Impact on the Community
The Aisling Center serves as a vital first stop for newly arrived Irish immigrants, helping them adjust to life in a new country and find housing and employment. With ongoing renovations and a commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the Yonkers and Woodlawn communities, the center is poised for continued growth and impact.
