Homelessness Prevention

Our Story

Aid For Friends was founded in 1984 after the tragic deaths of two homeless men who succumbed to the harsh Pocatello winter. This heartbreaking event galvanized the community to form a grassroots volunteer organization dedicated to finding housing for the homeless, primarily in basements and churches. The first significant step came when Bannock County donated a small house, which became the first homeless shelter in the area. In 1988, the county provided a facility at 653 S. 4th Avenue, which continues to serve as the Emergency Shelter for the community.

Our Impact

Today, Aid For Friends has transformed into a multifaceted resource center, offering essential services to prevent and overcome homelessness in Southeast Idaho. With immediate shelter, case management, and transitional housing programs, the organization provides hope and support to individuals and families in need.
