In 2005, Anne Heyman discovered the orphan crisis in Rwanda, where over 1.2 million children were left orphaned after the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi. Inspired by the Israeli model of youth villages, she founded the Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village in 2008 to provide a safe and nurturing environment for these vulnerable youth.
The Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village has transformed the lives of nearly 1,490 graduates, equipping them with the skills and confidence to become changemakers in their communities. The organization focuses on holistic development, ensuring that students receive education along with emotional and social support.
