Our Story

Founded in 1981 by Ethiopian refugee Asfaha Hadera, African Services Committee began in a Bronx basement, providing vital support to newcomers. Today, it stands as a multi-service human rights agency dedicated to assisting immigrants, refugees, and asylees from across the African Diaspora. With a staff that reflects the community it serves, African Services Committee offers health, housing, legal, social welfare, education, nutrition, and advocacy services to over 12,000 individuals annually in New York City.

Our Impact

By addressing the needs of those affected by war, persecution, and poverty, African Services Committee plays a crucial role in improving the lives of African and Caribbean immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.
