Our Story

The African American Planning Commission was founded in 1996 by Matthew Okebiyi to combat homelessness and its related challenges, including HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, and the lack of affordable housing and employment opportunities in New York City. Over the years, AAPCI has expanded from a single dedicated staff member to a robust team of 33, providing essential services such as transitional housing and social support.

Our Impact

With a commitment to creating economic opportunities, AAPCI has positively impacted over 30,000 residents through services like 24-hour shelter, employment preparation, and housing placement assistance.
