Our Story

The August Wilson African American Cultural Center, located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, was born from the vision of community leaders who sought to create a dedicated space for the celebration of Black culture. After a decade of planning, the center opened its doors in 2009, named in honor of the renowned playwright August Wilson. Under the leadership of Janis Burley Wilson, the center has become a vibrant hub for artistic expression and cultural engagement.

Impact

Each year, the center presents and produces over 100 events that foster community engagement and celebrate the richness of Black culture.
