Transforming Education in East Africa
The Africa Teacher Foundation was established in 2007 with a mission to empower African teachers by equipping them with the best educational practices. This initiative aims to improve curricular and instructional standards, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for children living in the poorest slums of East Africa, specifically in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Through ten days of professional development, teachers from slum, rural, and national schools learn diverse approaches to meet the needs of all learners in literacy, mathematics, and writing.
In 2010, the Foundation established the Africa Teacher Foundation Center for Pedagogy, creating a sustainable training program where selected teachers extend their knowledge to train other African educators. This peer-to-peer training model is crucial for multiplying the impact of teacher training across the region. Additionally, the Foundation addresses health needs by servicing rural and urban medical clinics, focusing on the well-being of orphaned children affected by HIV/AIDS and other health complications.
