Our Story

The journey of Africa International House USA, Inc. (AIH) began in 1982 with the establishment of Window to Africa, an African art and gift store in Hyde Park, Chicago. Founded by Dr. Delores (Dee) Parmer and Patrick Woodtor, along with a dedicated team of art and cultural enthusiasts, AIH was incorporated in 1994 to manage the African Festival of the Arts. The mission is clear: to serve as a center that exposes and educates all peoples to the individual works and collective contributions of African cultures.

Impact

AIH is recognized as one of Chicago’s cultural treasures, educating diverse communities about the rich contributions of African cultures through engaging programs and exhibitions.
