Our Story

More than a decade ago, a documentary on the Rwandan genocide opened eyes to the harsh realities of poverty in Africa. This sparked a journey to discover how to empower Africans to break free from the cycle of poverty. In 2007, Africa Bags was born with a mission to create a for-benefit project that prioritizes People, Planet, and Prosperity. By providing training in reusable cloth bag production and supplying villages with foot-powered treadle sewing machines, Africa Bags has made a significant impact in Malawi.

Impact

Africa Bags empowers vulnerable women to become skilled tailors, enabling them to uplift their communities from poverty. With annual sales of 3,000-4,000 bags generating over $50,000 in profit, the organization reinvests these funds back into Africa.
