Our Story

In 1992, a dedicated group of family members from the National Alliance for Mental Illness - Placer County recognized the urgent need for housing for their loved ones facing mental health challenges. This led to a vital partnership with the Placer County Mental Health Department, resulting in the establishment of housing programs for clients needing essential living skills training. In 2003, AMI Housing, Inc. was formed to manage these initiatives, receiving its 501c3 designation. The 2017 acquisition of the Nevada County Housing Development Corporation further expanded the mission to support vulnerable residents across the Sierra Region.

Impact

Currently, AMI Housing and NCHDC provide shelter for over 400 individuals every night, including those experiencing homelessness or living with mental illness and other disabilities.
