Our Story

In 1992, a dedicated group of family members from the National Alliance for Mental Illness - Placer County came together to seek housing solutions for their loved ones facing mental health challenges. This initiative led to a fruitful partnership with the Placer County Mental Health Department, resulting in the establishment of essential housing for clients in need of basic living skills training. In 2003, AMI Housing, Inc. was officially formed to continue this vital mission, and in 2017, a merger with the Nevada County Housing Development Corporation expanded its reach and services.

Impact

Today, AMI Housing and NCHDC provide shelter for over 400 individuals every night, including those experiencing homelessness or living with mental illness and other disabilities.
