Our Story
Adaptive Parent Project (APP) was founded by Alesha Thomas, a mother with cerebral palsy, who recognized the lack of resources available for parents with disabilities. Starting as a YouTube channel, APP aimed to teach adaptive parenting techniques for those who navigate parenting from a wheelchair. As the community grew, it became clear that a dedicated nonprofit was essential to provide inclusive resources for parents with disabilities. In 2021, APP was honored to be selected as one of the top 20 winners in the Aerie Real Changemaker Contest, receiving $20,000 to further its mission. Since then, APP has produced numerous educational videos and participated in various webinars, gaining recognition in Forbes magazine and international breastfeeding conferences.
