Our Story

The Ada Jenkins Center was founded during the Great Depression, following the tragic burning of the Davidson Colored School. Teacher Ada Jenkins inspired the community to raise funds for a new school, which opened in 1937. After her passing, the school was renamed in her honor and transitioned into a community center, ultimately becoming the Ada Jenkins Families and Careers Development Center in 1994. Today, it serves as a beacon of hope for those striving to overcome poverty.

In the program year from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, the Ada Jenkins Center has made a significant impact by providing emergency financial assistance, food pantry services, and educational programs to countless individuals in the local community.
