Founded in 1989 by Paysach Diskind, Achim Inc was established to support the influx of Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union. This community faced unique challenges in adapting to American culture while seeking to connect with their Jewish heritage. Achim is dedicated to creating a nurturing environment that fosters Jewish education and community engagement.

Empowering Through Education

Over the years, Achim has successfully built a robust support system for the Russian-speaking Jewish population in the greater Baltimore area. Through partnerships with organizations like JFS and HIAS, Achim has reached nearly every household that settled in the area from 1989 to 1999. The organization offers a variety of classes covering essential topics such as the weekly Parsha, Shabbat insights, parenting, and marriage issues. Additionally, Achim provides a Sunday program for school-aged children, ensuring that the next generation is well-versed in their Jewish identity.

Supporting Life-Cycle Events

Achim is committed to being there for the community during significant life events. From baby naming ceremonies to Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, weddings, and funerals, Achim helps families navigate these important moments with dignity and respect. The organization also publishes the popular mini-magazine, Table Talk, which is released weekly, further enriching the community's connection to Jewish traditions.
