Our Story

Access of West Michigan began in 1981 as a faith-based initiative aimed at uniting congregations in Kent County to address basic human needs. In 1990, the organization took on the vital role of organizing and coordinating the food pantry network across the county. Over the years, Access has expanded its mission to include poverty simulation workshops, which educate the community on the complexities of poverty. Today, Access focuses on community development, food justice, economic development, and equity, working tirelessly to create a more equitable society.
