Our Story
Founded in 1988 by Frank Batten, Sr. and Joshua P. Darden, Jr., Access College Foundation aims to eliminate barriers to postsecondary education for underrepresented and low-income students. Starting with a pilot program in five Norfolk high schools, the foundation has expanded its reach across multiple cities in South Hampton Roads, impacting over 77,000 students.
Impact
Since its inception, Access College Foundation has facilitated the enrollment of over 77,000 students in postsecondary education, leveraging $780 million in financial aid and scholarships. The foundation has awarded more than $14 million in Access 'Last-Dollar' Scholarships to help bridge the gap in educational costs.
