Our Story

Founded in 2000 by community artist Tony Shore and muralist Shawn James, Access Art is dedicated to transforming the lives of at-risk youth in Southwest Baltimore. After earning a Master of Fine Arts from Yale, Shore returned to his roots to inspire creativity and leadership among local youth. In 2008, Access Art merged with The Youthlight Project, enhancing its mission to serve the community through art.

Access Art has directly impacted over 1000 youth, with an impressive 85% of students aged 18 and over graduating high school or earning a GED. Through the creation of 14 large-scale murals and 8 public service billboard campaigns, the organization has generated over 240,000 media hits, showcasing the talent and dedication of its students.
