Founded in 2014 through a capital campaign by Kirk in the Hills, Accent Pontiac emerged as a transformative El Sistema-inspired music program. Launched in 2016 at Walt Whitman Elementary School, it has expanded to multiple schools within the Pontiac School District, adapting to challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic with innovative solutions.
Accent Pontiac currently serves approximately 270 students, having provided music education and resources to over 1,000 students through assemblies and guest artist performances. This initiative fosters confidence, leadership, and teamwork among participants.
