Our Story

Abundant Harvest Community Garden Outreach is dedicated to transforming the way food is grown and distributed in Colorado Springs. Founded by Charles Hendrix in 2010, this local nonprofit has transitioned from traditional farming methods to innovative Hydroponic and Aquaponics systems. By utilizing these sustainable practices, Abundant Harvest not only grows nutritious produce but also empowers low-income families, seniors, and military members by providing them with access to healthy food.

With the generous support of Restoration Church, two acres of land were transformed into a thriving community garden. In its first year, Abundant Harvest distributed over 2,264 pounds of fresh produce to those in need, all while operating on a zero-dollar budget. The organization has continued to grow, adding automated systems and expanding its reach to include educational programs for community members.

Impact

Abundant Harvest is on a mission to build four energy-efficient greenhouses that will house Aquaponic and Hydroponic systems, significantly increasing food production. With a goal of growing 100,000 to 150,000 pounds of produce per greenhouse annually, the organization aims to donate 30-50% of its harvest to local families in need. In 2014 alone, Abundant Harvest grew 18,000 pounds of produce, donating 10,000 pounds to those who needed it most.
