Fostering Inclusivity

Our Story

A.B.L.E. began in the fall of 2010 as the Teen Drama Troupe at GiGi's Playhouse Chicago. What started as a weekly meeting of six young actors with Down syndrome quickly blossomed into a vibrant community of 17 actors, supported by dedicated volunteers. In 2016, inspired by this success, core teaching artists established A.B.L.E. as a 501c3 nonprofit to expand creative and social opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Our Impact

A.B.L.E. boasts a remarkable 96% program retention rate, fostering long-term relationships with actors and their families. With 84% of participants having aged out of public school, A.B.L.E. provides essential creative arts opportunities that are often inaccessible or unaffordable. Each year, 25% of participants benefit from free or reduced-rate registration.
