Our Story

Abby’s House was founded in 1976 by Annette Rafferty and a group of dedicated citizens who recognized the urgent need for housing for homeless women and children in Worcester. Named after the abolitionist and women's rights activist Abby Kelley Foster, the organization began with a humble 9-bed overnight shelter. Over the years, Abby’s House has expanded its services to include affordable housing and advocacy, becoming a beacon of hope for those in crisis.

Impact

Since its inception, Abby’s House has transformed the lives of over 16,000 women and children, providing them with shelter, supportive housing, and essential advocacy services. In 2023 alone, the organization has continued to make strides in helping families achieve self-sufficiency.
