Our Story
Founded in 1972 in Seattle, LELO emerged from the collective efforts of Black, Asian, and Latino workers striving to combat racial and economic injustices. This grassroots organization has evolved to empower low-income workers of color, recent immigrants, and women through legal action and community organizing.
Impact
LELO has significantly increased the representation of Black workers in Seattle's construction trades, growing from fewer than 10 in 1970 to over 600 by 1979. The organization has achieved numerous legal victories for various worker groups, advocating for their rights on both local and international fronts.
