Our Story
In 2011, the Georgetown Aging Initiative identified a critical need for affordable adult day care services for the growing senior population in Georgetown, Texas. The Georgetown City Council responded by forming the Commission on Aging Board, which included a diverse group of residents, medical professionals, and aging experts. After evaluating existing senior services, it became clear that the community lacked an adult day center.
In 2016, Josephine Zamora, a former Commission member and an experienced RN, began researching the establishment of a licensed adult day center. With the increasing prevalence of dementia among seniors, she presented her vision to SCORE mentor Steve Howard, who played a pivotal role in launching A Gift of Time as a nonprofit organization. The initial funding came from the Men's Steak Fry Group, which donated $3,000 to cover the costs of applying for 501(c)(3) status.
With support from local organizations such as The Georgetown Health Foundation and the Georgetown City Council, A Gift of Time opened its doors to the community, focusing on memory loss care. Since then, the organization has developed programs, support groups, and educational series aimed at improving the quality of life for individuals with memory loss and their caregivers.
