Our Story

Once upon a time in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a group of creative theatre majors from Muhlenberg College formed the Uninvited Guests Comedy Troupe, bringing laughter to audiences along the East Coast. Years later, this talented ensemble evolved into A Broken Umbrella Theatre, expanding their artistic horizons beyond improv and sketch comedy. In August 2002, they collaborated with Our Shoes Are Red to present a successful production of Waiting for Godot. After a brief hiatus for personal pursuits, the troupe reunited in 2008 in New Haven, Connecticut, inspired by the vibrant arts community in Westville.

Since then, A Broken Umbrella Theatre has been dedicated to creating site-specific original works that engage audiences of all ages, partnering with local organizations to enhance the cultural fabric of the community. The ensemble has grown, welcoming new artists and nurturing creativity, all while celebrating the unique history of New Haven.
