Our Story

In 1993, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson recognized a troubling trend among young minority boys in Miami-Dade County, witnessing many falling into incarceration, drug trade, or dropping out of school. Determined to make a difference, she initiated the 500 African American Male Role Models of Excellence program, which has evolved into the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project. This initiative pairs at-risk youth with successful adult mentors who provide guidance, support, and educational assistance, fostering a nurturing environment for young boys to grow into responsible men.

Impact

The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project serves over one hundred schools across Miami-Dade County, impacting boys aged 9-19. With more than 30 program components, it instills values of healthy living, responsibility, and respect. Remarkably, over 95% of participants graduate without further violations, showcasing the program's effectiveness in transforming lives.
