Our Story
St. Philip’s School and Community Center was founded in the late 1940s through the dedication of the Episcopal Diocese and local African-American Episcopalians. Initially established as a black Episcopal church in South Dallas, the community quickly recognized the need for programs that catered to local youth. In 1959, a new gymnasium was built to support community activities, and by 1967, a daycare center was established, marking the beginning of a strong educational focus.
Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Terry Flowers, who became the principal in 1983, St. Philip’s has transformed from a small Episcopal PreK3 – 1st grade school into a highly competitive independent institution serving PreK2 – 8th grade. Today, it is renowned for nurturing confident, morally strong, intelligent, and caring leaders.
