Our Story

Founded in 1992, Kids Count of Milford emerged as the first Connecticut chapter of Kids Count through the dedication of community leaders like Jody Culmone, Gary Johnson, and Mary Jo Kramer. With generous support from private and corporate donors, along with a special grant from the United Way, Kids Count has been instrumental in enhancing the lives of families in Milford. The organization collaborates with local initiatives such as the Milford Family Resource Center and the Ready to Learn program, ensuring that children receive the essential services they need.

Impact

A longitudinal study in the Milford Public Schools revealed significant advancements in language skills and concept development among at-risk preschool students. This initiative has led to a remarkable two-thirds reduction in the need for special education services in later grades.
