Our Story
1000 Friends of Iowa originated from a gathering of dedicated professionals at the Griffieon Family Farm in Ankeny. This diverse group, including academics, politicians, conservationists, and planners, came together to discuss land use issues in Iowa. Their collaboration led to the formation of the Rural-Urban Stewardship Project, which later evolved into 1000 Friends of Iowa. Established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1998, this organization aims to unite Iowans in advocating for responsible land use practices that benefit communities and the environment.
